SAFEGUARDING CONSUMERS

In the UK, food businesses, including manufacturers, are legally required to provide clear information about the presence of 14 major allergens in their products. This includes ensuring staff are aware of these allergens and how to prevent cross-contamination. The goal is to protect consumers with allergies from potentially harmful ingredients.

The law mandates that food businesses must inform consumers if any of the 14 specified allergens are present in their food products. These include celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, peanuts, sesame, soybeans, sulphur dioxide and sulphites, and tree nuts.
